That’s Not What You’re Being Paid For

Written By: Lauren Howard

A paycheck is not a permission slip for abuse.

Abuse is not the logical end result of being paid to do a job, but so many people treat it as the cost of doing business.

That's garbage.

It's time to dispose of this notion that your job doesn't owe you psychological safety.

The things that you are required to tolerate are in your job description.

You don't have to love your job. You aren't defined by your job. Your value is not connected to your job. Even so, you should be able to safely work at your job without the expectation that you'll survive a hostile, toxic environment because you're somehow being paid to do it.

That's not what you're being paid for.
